About Our Trainers
Lucy Bailey, CPDT, joined Greater St. Louis
Training Club in 1965 at the age of 15. The
knowledgeable and friendly instructors patiently
helped her train her Welsh terrier and encouraged her
to enter the club's annual obedience trial. In their first
venture into the sport of obedience, Lucy and her dog,
Owen, won first place in a Novice A class of 63
entries. They went on to earn a CDX degree and Lucy
was firmly hooked on the sport of obedience before
she went off to college. Lucy has taught classes from
Puppy and Family Dog through Open obedience as
well as special classes such as Clicker, Rally, and
Tricks. She and Linda Schulte raise, train and show
their own dogs under the kennel name of Wysiwyg
Welsh Terriers. Wysiwyg dogs participate in earthdog trials as well as obedience, agility, tracking and conformation events. Lucy is a Human Resources Training Manager, a member of the American Society for Training and Development and the facilitator for the club’s internal certification course for trainers. Lucy is a CPDT and member of the APDT.  She and Dixie Lehmann own and operate their own in-home dog training business, Dogs Unleashed LLC.
Debbie Baker joined GSLTC in 2001.  She says “I have had Cairn Terriers & Vizslas. I have put CH, CD, CDX, UD & JH on my Vizslas. Enjoy assisting Puppy 1 class as well as  Novice for the Obedience Ring  classes. I have found over the years that training methods have moved in a new direction. I also do conformation & hunt tests with my Vizslas.”
Fran Beezley joined GSLTC in 2003 after taking a class with the club.  Fran says “I have always owned mixed breeds and with the two I've trained myself, I have earned CGCs on both, MBCD and MBCDX on one and a Rally Novice title on the one I am currently working with.  I've been involved at the Humane Society since 1988 when I started as a volunteer clinic assistant.  I also foster dogs and puppies and help with the dog walking.  I feel that training with your dog creates a better bond between the two of you, and I would like to help others achieve this same bond.”
Linda Campbell, CPDT joined GSLTC in 1996 and
has mentored under some very knowledgeable trainers who
share her commitment to improving the bond between pets
and their owners through positive reinforcement training
methods.  She is currently a Head Trainer in Family Dog
levels classes and has assisted in Growly Dog class.  A
registered veterinary technician, Linda has worked at the
Humane Society of Missouri for 25 years and is a CPDT and
member of the APDT as well as serving on the Board of the Society of Veterinary Behavior Technicians.  She is also an approved AKC CGC evaluator, and a 2004 graduate of the Purdue University DOGS! course.  Linda has worked with a variety of dogs, cats and birds over the years and stresses the motto "The behavior that is rewarded will increase" to all her students.  She has developed several programs at the Humane Society that work with animals surrendered from sub-standard and/or abusive environments.
Currently, Linda shares her home with four dogs, three cats and two birds.
Amy Horton, CPDT is a head trainer for Puppy 1 and 2 and an assistant trainer for Growly Dog class.  She has been with GSLTC since 2001, first as an apprentice and then as a head instructor.  Amy previously trained with Delaware Valley Kennel Club (NJ). She has also been an apprentice tester with ATTS and is interested in dog social behavior.  Amy says "As a kid, I worked with a Beagle, Catahoulas, Walker Hounds, various Feist-type dogs, and Malamutes.  Currently I have three Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs."  Amy has put a Rally Novice, three Novice Working Pack Dog, two Working Pack Dog, three CGC, and two TT titles on her dogs. She is currently working on Novice Draft Dog, Working Pack Dog, and Working Pack Dog Excellent titles with the Greater Swiss Mt. Dog Club of America, CD and RA titles with the AKC, and scent work with Gateway Search Dogs.
Dixie Tenny Lehmann CPDT was a GSLTC member in the early 1980’s before moving to Seattle; she rejoined GSLTC when she moved back to St. Louis in 2001.  During her years in Seattle, she showed her Welsh terrier to his CD with the year’s highest individual obedience score for his breed.  Dixie has also owned and trained Airedales, Cairn Terriers, German, English, and Australian Shepherds, an Irish Wolfhound, and a Bernese Mountain Dog.  Her training experience includes tricks, tracking, terrier earthdog, and service dog training as well as pet and competition obedience.  Dixie founded two of the country’s first all-breed purebred rescue organizations in the 1980’s.  Dixie is an APDT Professional member, and co-owns an in-home dog behavior business, Dogs Unleashed LLC, with Lucy Bailey.  Dixie teaches puppy and adult dog classes as well as tricks and other specialty classes.  She and her husband and children live with Australian Shepherds, a Papillon, and a Phalene, plus a cat and a canary.
Mary MacKenzie has been a member of
GSLTC since 2003 and currently serves on
the Board.  She became a member after
taking two of her four Australian Shepherds
through Novice 2 classes with Ed Carter.
She has begun training a third dog since that
time; Gunnar is two and has been through
classes with GSLTC trainers since he was 8
weeks old, beginning with Puppy class and
currently is working in the Competition
workshop, having earned his CD and Rally
Advanced titles.  Mary says “Three of my
four dogs are "rescues"; of these, Sydney is
my other competition dog (CD, RN, NA, CGC) who also is certified as a therapy dog with Therapy Dogs International.  I have started to venture into agility competition with both Sydney and Gunnar and am now officially an agility addict!  Gunnar and I have been learning to herd for about a year and both enjoy the complexity and challenge of that activity.  There are not enough hours in the day for me to do all the things I'd like to with my dogs, but that doesn't keep me from trying!  I have assisted/acted as head trainer in basic behavior and CGC classes.  In my non-dog life, I am a psychiatric nurse with a very tolerant husband who loves dogs, and 2 grown children.”
Lorraine Martinez joined the club in 2004
when she first moved to St. Louis.  She completed
the certification course in 2005 and is currently one
of the head trainers for the Growly Dog and Family
Dog classes.  Lorraine has always had a special
affinity for dogs, but never got involved in training until
her mother and mother's out of control Dalmatian,
Pongo, came to live with her.  It was then that she
applied her doctoral training in behavioral psychology
and her extensive reading about animal behavior to
help Pongo earn a CGC title.  Lorraine has been
involved in shelter and rescue activities since 2000,
working as a volunteer foster care provider and trainer
for rescued dogs and a dog walker and socializer for
shelter dogs.  In 2002 Lorraine adopted Grace.  She was considered un-adoptable due to aggressive behavior.  Her loving spirit and sharp aptitude for learning have been an inspiration for developing Lorraine's rehabilitation skills.  Lorraine is a member of the APDT.  She has extensive knowledge of the theories of learning, and focuses on using techniques that foster respect, trust and harmony between dogs and their human companions.

Jackie O'Guin has belonged to GSTLC since 1997.  She started doing obedience at a pet shop, where she took about three classes and then quit because "they were not nice and not nice to the dogs."  One day she heard that in the GSLTC classes you could use treats and your own collar, not a choke chain.  Jackie says "I joined GSLTC because I liked the way they trained.  The dogs had fun and so did I."  Jackie served on the GSLTC Board from 2001 to 2003.  Jackie currently assists with Shy Dog and Family Dog Clicker Style classes.
Jackie has been in the conformation ring with Cocker and Clumber spaniels.  She has an agility title and senior hunter title on one cocker and is working on a master hunting title.  She also has a clumber that her granddaughter Jessica is showing in conformation and they are training for the obedience ring and field work.  Jackie belongs to Gateway Retriever Club and is Treasurer for the Great Lakes American Cockers Hunting Enthusiasts.
Jackie says, "I have made a lot of friends at Greater and really enjoy the club."
.
Nancy Roth joined Greater St. Louis Training Club around the year 2000, starting with a four month old Sheltie pup in the Beginners class and continuing through the training levels to finish a UD in June of 2003 on the same Sheltie -- who was no longer a pup! Nancy currently has three Shetland Sheepdogs and one Papillon, and has had a yellow lab and Cairn terriers as well as mixed breed dogs. Nancy says "I do obedience because I think it is so much fun! I enjoy trying to help other people learn about the sport and how much satisfaction there can be for both dog and handler as they spend time together learning the exercises. (Believe me, it's a lot of time!)" Nancy coordinates the club's Competition Workshop for advanced dogs working on their Open and Utility titles. She also belongs to the Herding Dog Association of Greater St Louis.
Linda Schulte joined GSLTC in early 1990s when she started training her first dog.  She and her Welsh terriers have participated in obedience, rally obedience, clicker training, tricks, conformation showing, earthdog go-to-ground, terrier races, tracking, and agility.  Her dogs have earned obedience, earthdog, and temperament titles (both CGC and TT).  Linda breeds and shows Welsh terriers through Wysiwyg Welsh Terriers, which she co-owns with Lucy Bailey, and is webmaster for their site,
www.wysiwyg-welsh-terriers.com.  She is the local rep for WTCARES, the national Welsh terrier club's rescue organization.  Linda serves on the GSLTC Board, and has been the club’s obedience trial secretary for several years.  Linda helped develop the Novice Rally obedience class and Advanced and Excellent Rally workshop (class), which she teaches.  She is also a regular assistant trainer in Puppy 1 and 2 classes.

Val Smith has been training with GSLTC for over 20 years. She has held many positions on GSLTC's Board of Directors and has served as GSLTC’s President.  Val has been an active member of the GSLTC's obedience trial committee (including trial chair). She has a background in animal behavior and animal husbandry. Val has worked as a zookeeper and is currently a vet tech. She is an AKC CGC evaluator and an AKC Hunt Test judge.  Her chosen breed is the Vizsla, which has led her into the world of fieldwork as well as obedience, agility and conformation.  Val says "I personally enjoy the companionship of my dogs and strive to help every class member achieve their personal goals so that they will also find their canine companions to be a lifetime pleasure."  Val is a Head Trainer for GSLTC.  She usually teaches Puppy or Novice for the Obedience Ring classes, but occasionally fills in at all levels when there is a need.
Cinder Wilkinson-Kenner I joined GSLTC around October 2004. Currently I am a member of the Board of
Directors, an AKC CGC Evaluator, teach Shy Dog 1, 2 and 3, Family Dog 1 and 2, Superdog, have assisted with the Reactive Dog classes, Dogs with Issues, co-teach Dogs with Issues Rally, Dogs with Issues Sports Sampler, and teach various other skill workshops. I have been a clicker trainer since around 1995, when I
wanted to find a better way to communicate with my dog. I love teaching, because my students, human and canine, teach me something new every day!
I've owned and trained dogs for as long as I can remember. My first formal Obedience class was in 1983, while in college, at Springfield Dog Training Club in Springfield, MO. I have trained and taught at Mound City Obedience Training Club, Creve Coeur Community Center, Lola and Penelope's, St. Louis Public Schools Continuing Education Program and own my own company, Best Friend Pet Care, LLC, which offers private, in-home training and pet sitting.
My "animal resume" includes working in several hunter-jumper barns, training and driving carriage horses in Chicago, and working as a vet-tech and practice manager, and hospital administrator at a large, urban shelter. I have been the St. Louis Coordinator for Alaskan Malamute Protection League, volunteered for Belgian Breed Rescue, Daschund Rescue, and rescued lots of other breeds and mixes along the way! I have titled dogs in Obedience through the Novice Level in both AKC and ASCA, AKC Rally and have trained dogs through Open obedience, Herding, some Agility a tiny dab at Tracking and lots of tricks!
My current dogs are, Nilla, CGC, a Lab/Pitbull cross, and Turbocharged Faster'N'Ewe, CGC, RN "Nitro", an Australian Shepherd. Nitro and I hope to compete in Agility, Rally Advanced, Obedience and Tracking someday. My family consists of 1 husband, Jacob Kenner, also a club member and trainer, 4 kids, 17, 14, 4 and 2, three cats, two tanks of fish, a hedgehog, a turtle,
chickens and bees, as well as the dogs.
In my spare time I like to run long distances, knit, read, sew and eat!
Donna Yakel has belonged to GSLTC since 2001 and is a current board member and website administrator. She has assisted with Puppy 1 classes, Novice for the Obedience Ring and currently helping with Rowdy Dog 1 and 2 classes also has assisted with FD1. She has helped to train her Vizslas that she co-owns with Debbie Baker to earn 4 CD, 3 CDX, 1 UD, 4 JH and 4 CH Has put an RN, RA, RE on Hope. All of her Vizslas enjoy going to the nursing home to see their grandma and visit with the other residents.  Donna says “We do a little bit of every thing with our dogs, obedience, conformation, field and just starting in agility.”

Tina Ward Logan’s version:
My name is Tina’s Logan, CGC, RN.
Tina Ward is my human.  She already knew
a lot about rescue dogs and dog training before
she got me in 2004, but because of me she’s
learned a whole lot more.  We first learned
about GSLTC when we took a CGC (that’s
Canine Good Citizen) class.  Since then
we’ve taken lots and lots of classes and I’ve
been going to dog shows where I’ve been
getting better at reading and ‘rithmetic.
[Logan and Tina have been entering Rally
classes in which numbered stations have
signs telling the team which exercise to
perform.] I like going to shows a lot because
they’re a whole lot of dogs, it’s really exciting
and I’ve won a lot of neat stuff.  So far I’ve passed my Canine Good Citizen
and I’ve completed my Rally Novice title with three
1st place wins.  Now I’m working on jumping big jumps and Tina tells me that eventually we’ll do that in shows too.  It’s a lot of fun and I hope you and your dogs will enjoy spending time together as much as I love being with Tina and going to classes and doing all these fun things.
In the picture you can see me, I’m the tall dark handsome Golden Retriever, and Jemma, she’s the short but mighty Golden Retriever, and Tina – she’s easy to spot since she’s the human.
.
Crystal Rolfe joined GSLTC in 2006 with her new Boston Terrier pup, Bender, and is now an active assistant in the classes.  She has worked with dogs most of her life and volunteered at the Humane Society of Missouri at the age of 14. Since then, dogs have always been a big part of her family.  She tries to stay involved with her own dogs as much as possible, always looking for fun activities to do with them.
"The classes at GSLTC have been a real eye opener for me and have refreshed my desire to become involved in a more active way," says Crystal.  "I'd love to help more folks learn how much fun training can be, and that it truly does strengthen the bond we share with our dogs."
In the past, Crystal has earned CGC and TT titles.  She also did Touch Therapy with a Brussels Griffon.  Crystal is a  certified all breed pet stylist in the city at a healthy pet market and has done a lot of rescue  work with various groups.  She currently shares her home with her husband Jim and 2 daughters (Chloe and Jessica), Kira the Shar-Pei/ Pitbull cross, Bender the Boston and several other critters.
